Our November 18 meeting will have “hands on” demonstrations by several members (see below for list). These demonstrations will also be put on throughout the day at the Gale Free Library in Holden as part of the Holden Art Ride on Saturday, November 21. Not coincidentally, the public reception for our photography exhibit at the library will also be on November 21. Our thanks to JoAnn Audette for organizing our participation in the Holden Art Ride and the exhibit, to the members volunteering their time, talents and donating food, and to Dagmar Dankova for designing the wonderful publicity postcard with member’s images for the event.

Hello club members,
Wednesday’s night meeting was the club’s competition night. Many nice images were entered, 3 slides, 11 snapshots, 16 prints and 37 digital. The blue and red images were awarded and our thanks goes to our guest judge, Nancy Bryant.

Reminder to members who have not paid their dues. Please have it by the next meeting in November. Thank you to the members who paid already.

Tuesday, October 27, 5-7pm is the hanging at the Gale Free Library in Holden. Members please bring 2-3 framed prints to the library .

November’s meeting will be a dry run on the demonstrations to be shown at the Holden Art Ride in November. Anyone doing a demo the day of the Art Ride please get in touch with Joann soon with the details of your demo. She need that info for the write up for the Art Ride.

We would like to pass out to the people attending the Art Ride postcards with information about the club. The front side of the postcard we would like to have a collage of members photos. Dagmar will be designing this so please send your images to her. Her e-mail address has been sent to the members in a separate yahoo e-mail.

A suggestion has been made to use a smaller room at the church when the room we use now is too big. A check with the church will be made to see if this move is possible. Any thoughts for or against this move please bring them to the next meeting or e-mail one of the club’s officers.

Volunteers are needed to bring refreshments for November’s meeting. Anyone wishing to do this please e-mail the yahoo group so we know this is covered.

Thank you, Mary Freddie – Club secretary

Well, we had a good time Sunday with outstanding weather. Bob, Pat, Shirley, Jessica, Steve and I (DON) wandered around the Brookfields, New Braintree, and Warren.

Just a couple photos.

This first one was taken before I picked anyone up.  The rest was on the tour.

As it turned out when we came back this was totally fogged out.

Taking it All In

Taking it All In

On October 11, 2009 we found ourselves in the most picturesque locations in the Brookfields … thanks to Don Roberts … our guide for the day. Some of the colorful foliage had past, however, there what no shortage of typical fall beauty to photograph. The sun lit up the landscape beautifully, while the refreshing dry crisp air and light breeze reminded me  that sweater weather was here. A perfect combination for a stroll through the woods or  a slow ride (with the windows down) through the back roads of New England to soak up the natural beauty. It funny that we sometimes get so busy with our daily goings on that it takes a day like this to help us once again appreciate the simple things in life. Thanks Don for organizing this photo shoot. Folks, if you missed this one, try to come to the next one.

Members may enter a maximum of three snapshots and three slides. All entries must be labeled with a title and the name of the maker. Slides should be properly thumb-spotted (ask a member if you are uncertain about this method of marking slides).
Following are the rules for digital images and prints:
New Digital Competition Rules
  1. Members may enter a maximum of three images.
  2. The image file type must be JPEG, with the .jpg file extension.
  3. The file name must include the maker’s last name, first name and the image title (preferably in that order).
  4. The image size must be no more than 1024 pixels wide and no more than 768 pixels high.
  5. The files must be emailed to Carol Morocco at cmorocco@mindspring.com prior to the competition. Entries will not be accepted on the night of the competition.

The deadline for emailing images for the October 21, 2009 competition is Monday, October 19 (by midnight at the end of the day).

Recommended, but not required:

It is suggested that photographs be converted to the sRGB color space. That color space most closely approximates the capability of monitors and projectors to display color and usually results in the best presentation of your image.

It is also suggested that entries be saved with the proper amount of compression so that the file size does not exceed 850 KB.

(These are recommendations taken from contests sponsored by NECCC and PSA).
